A.Net needs our support to be honest..i can't imagine that i wake up on the morning at news that EA Games (or any other company) bought NCsoft and A.Net for X million dollars because they were near to be broke company.
and really since i found that GW is no monthly fees and the game is brilliant and awesome i put my hand on my heart and hope this doesn't happen one day to A.Net.
all what i need is to buy factions standard edition and 1 char. slot but i'm buying also collectors edition and another slot just to support them.

All anet needs to do, is make a rpg. look at the amount of people that buy D&D. Look at how well wow is doing and the books they sell on the maps and in game stuff. If the game has rpg. Anet would not have to worry. The rpg will take care of self. look at never winter nights, the game is still selling very well. it is not even dead yet.
anet success would be in thr rpg. I think that anet needs to go buy never winter nights and D&D books to get good ideas and refences

While that is true, inane semantics do not exactly help in making the OP's point however. Credit for making your point though.
Arena Net is hardly an evil empire - however in giving this move they have annoyed some of the more dedicated Guild Wars players. They knew from the out that people would want more than four slots and sans ability to buy new slots there would be those who would pay for a completely new account. At the time those who did this were presented with this as their only option.
To now turn around and say well we can now add more accounts is a slap to those dedicated players who paid for the second account - who spent time unlocking a second account, the frustration of transfering between the two accounts etc.
Furthermore they are saying you are going to have to buy factions twice if you did that, rather than once if you waited. I knew it was a risk I was taking when I paid for a second account, I just didn't expect A-net to come back three months later saying that there was a better way than buying a second account - lets have some communication please, people have been crying out for more slots ever since the game went live.
Clearly A-net has some ability to merge/modify entries on the database - on Friday there will be a lot of people merging Prophecies and Factions accounts and when this goes live there will be a number of people adding slots - modifying the database.
Would a one off amnesty allowing merges of accounts really hurt you that much A-net? Even if it's technically difficult, are there really that many accounts that it will be that difficult to do? We've paid for extra character slots allready - in fact we've paid more than we would under the new scheme - given a choice I don't want two seperate accounts, I want them both on one.

In that case, you may want to check out Gaile's latest transcript where she states that it is possible that this may come to pass at a later time, and that only time will tell.

Now add a second account. That would be $100/1560 hr. = ~$.07/hr. and $100/500 hr. = $.20/hr.
Now add the cost of two more character slots: $120/1560 hr. = ~$.08/hr and $120/500 hr. = $.24/hr.
Heck, now even add the cost of Factions: $170/1560 hr. = ~$.10/hr. and $170/500 hr. = $.34/hr.
That's still some of the cheapest entertainment around, so I don't know how anyone can think ArenaNet is trying to rip us off.

I would just like to say: yay.
I want about three, maybe four extra slots, so for € 30,- / € 40,- (even less since the dollar is worth less than the euro) I would have my slots with acces to both Cantha and Tyria.
As opposed to having to pay somewhere around € 20,- (if I can find a proper chpt 1, euro 2006 edition costs € 40,-, but ill just keep the € 20,- as a guideline) for chapt 1, and € 40,- for chapt 2. So this is around € 60,- I will have 6 slots with full acces, I only want 3 or 4. I will have more storage though, but if I want even more storage i can always "buy" a mule character and still would have spend less money on the whole.
The only valid argument I heard for having seprate accounts is that the anti-farming code is account specific.

Releasing a MMORPG without monthly fee sure is risky business but I think Anet has done one helluva job showing to the gaming world that there is alternative way to play - way where you don't have to swing credit cards. (Except for the little 40 euro or so in beginning )

The funniest thing is, purchasing character slots was a player's idea. When it was raised on forums, the entire community thought; "Hey! That's an awesome idea!"..
The Anet decide to do it..and suddenly:
"they're ripping us off!"

Can't believe people are complaining about this still..I seem to say that a lot around here..
Why is a character slot $10? 10 * 4 = $40..the price of buying a whole account! OH NOES!
This community is going down the toilet these days..
Merging accounts..if they find a way to do it i'll be impressed..think of the problems:
Merging fame : They can't just add the total fame together, because you can have two r3 accounts (which takes no time to get to) and then suddenly when they merge they have an r6 account (which is much harder to achieve)..this obviously isnt fair.
Bot Farming/ Ebay : What happens when players that are selling stuff on Ebay or knowingly trading with bots merge an account? reems and reems of gathered evidence will become useless or at least very confusing.
Considering that by the time you've played the game for 100 hours the cost of the game is, and i'll do this for you americans, i actually think we in the Uk at least get a better deal;
$50/100 = 50cents an hour
We get a tremendous amount of value already.
Maybe in the future Anet shouldn't give us more options, maybe then people would be happy? I doubt it somehow...
The funniest thing out of all this is that buying slots was a player's idea. When this was talked about before Anet went through with it, the community was saying;
"Thats an Awesome idea! I'll be unhappy if Anet don't do this"
Then Anet announce it;
"They're ripping us off! They want more money!"

Whether it's possible is for the developers to say. But it's a fact that we'll have to accept the possibility and accept whatever the final verdict is.

Keep in mind that when you install a new chapter, you have the option at that time to merge; once the decision's made, it doesn't change. I don't think the game was set up with it in mind to be able to merge full databases of characters, unlocks and storage items. This becomes a complicated process once there's a data-fill, a process I'm sure they never expected to need to accomodate.
But on the account merge thing, I'm speculating, until there's final word from A.net.

Yep, I remember that (I probably /signed it too >< ). I'm all for it, except I just wish this had came sooner, or at least a word would have came sooner telling us this was in the plans. This pretty much screws over the idea of having a second account, since people can put whatever characters they want/need on one account. Obviously, if people had known about this they would have likely held off on purchasing a second account.
I had always thought keeping limited space on each account was a smart marketing ploy, and that it would remain unchanged. After all, people buying two+ copies of Factions for multiple accounts would definitely make for their profit. So this change making it possible to buy slots was (at least to me) unexpected, and is a complete different way of profiting. So for those who have multiple accounts, some will be buying at least two copies of Factions, then likely would buy a couple slots for one of their accounts. So it seems like it has profit written all over it. What I feel they'd need to do to make things fair again for the many who bought multiple accounts in the past is somehow make it possible to do a one-time merge/character swap between accounts. That way we wouldn't feel forced to buy more than one copy of Factions, but could focus on one account(in effect rendering that alternate account useless I guess).
Whether or not it seems to screw the rest over, the option is there for those who want or need it - which doesn't mean we're forced to take advantage of it; the option is simply there.

I kind of like the idea about being able to buy extra character slots...
Suppose you didnt want everything offered in the Collector's Edition? The 2-sided map, the music CD....whatever. BUT, suppose you wanted just 1 extra character slot? I think it works to the consumer's advantage; being flexible with your product is smart thinking, in my view...
As far as ANET being evil--well, I've seen a lot of posts about complaints on a lot of online games, and the problems those games have, the least not being the online subscription fee.
Online subscription fee.
Online subscription fee.
Online subscription fee.
To the complainers: What's your problem with ANET again?

I completely agree and can't wait to buy a couple more slots.
One slot is only the price of a movie and I'll get much more enjoyment out of it.
